In twelve volumes, Jean de La Fontaine collected nearly 240 classic French fables that are considered classics of French literature. He also wrote a story, collected in “Contes et nouvelles en vers” about two lovers, Argie and Atis, who are brought together by a fairy in the shape of a cocker spaniel that poops gemstones.
This is not considered one of his greater works.
