A series of horizontal lines can be a landscape. When evenly ordered, a series of lines can measure height, length, or distance. We can use lines to measure the tides. A series of ordered lines can put a number to the saturation of a color, like the the blue of the sky. Given a consistent vantage point, lines can theoretically measure the height of a cloud, or even its density. Lines can define a view, or provide space for annotations.
